Extremism: the loser's revenge

Exploring the causes of political or religious extremism, many commentators have pinpointed psychological problems that recur with uncanny frequency amongst those recruited to terrorist organisations around the world.

Ian Buruma published an article in the Guardian several years ago examining the ways in which extremism may form the focus of "the loser's revenge":

Much of this article was inspired by an earlier 2005 article by Hans Magnus Enzensberger, orginally published in Der Spiegel, entitled "The Radical Loser".
